Whether or not you think it helps, celebrities are getting on the green bandwagon and endorsing some pretty cool and important environmental causes.

Here’s a quick tour of some of the more recent celebrity-backed eco-campaigns out there.

1. Sasha Grey Promotes Animal Birth Control

In a bid to support PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), young actress and “sexpert” on dating and love-making, Sasha Grey, posed for their “Too Much Sex Can Be A Bad Thing” campaign.

This campaign aims to encourage people to have their pets spayed or neutered in order to reduce the populations of unwanted animals. According to PETA, “One unspayed dog and her offspring can produce up to 67,000 dogs in six years!” Check out the video with her personal thoughts on the problem.

2. Paul McCartney’s PETA Campaign

Another PETA campaign is the one to get people to eat less meat, and this one is supported by none other than Paul McCartney, who is a vegetarian and is quoted on the ad as saying, “Many years ago, I was fishing and as I was reeling in the poor fish, I realized, ‘I am killing him—all for the passing pleasure it brings me.’” Check out other Veggie Testimonials from celebrities of all walks of life at VeggieTestimonial.PETA.org.

3. Leonardo DiCaprio’s Ecological Preservation

Another very vocal male actor on the subject of the environment, Leonardo DiCaprio has teamed up with Jaeger-LeCoultre to produce two luxurious timepieces that will benefit his California Community Foundation. The funds raised through the “Time to Care” project will benefit the foundation that is centered on ecological preservation.

4. Pink Anti-Fur Campaign

PETA attracts a lot of celebrity attention, so it’s no surprise that this anti-fur campaign is another of theirs. In response to Kanye West’s fur fixation, pop singer Pink quoted as saying, “The entire time Kanye is going, ‘They need more fur in this show’. He just wouldn’t shut up about how he loved fur.

I mean, he’s saying this to me, the PETA guy and Paul McCartney! I was just so grossed out by him. I’m like, ‘You’re an idiot!’ There are so many people who I think are a waste of skin and he’s up there. I should wear him. Go on, donate yourself Kanye. People can wear your fur.”

5. Gisele Bundchen’s Ad Campaign to Preserve Water Resources

Wearing nothing but water, supermodel Gisele Bundchen took it all off to support a clean water project for her native Brazil. The campaign, Y Ikatu Xingu, works to project the Xingu watershed in the Amazon basin from overuse and pollution. You can purchase her new footwear to help support the cause.

6. Jessica Biel and Other Celebrities Fight Against Global Clean Water Crisis

In a much more active approach to posing for the environment, Jessica Biel and many other celebrities (including Emile Hirsch, Isabel Lucas, Alexandra Cousteau, and Lupe Fiasco) climbed to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro recently in a fight against the global clean water crisis.

The Summit to the Summit project in support of Children’s Safe Drinking Water Program, UNHCR, and Water for People that involved a large group of people made the 19,340 foot climb up the mountain, blogging, tweeting, and posting pictures the entire way.
